Who are we?

The Hezekiah Walker Center for Gospel Music (HWCGM) is a center of excellence and learning dedicated to the study and promotion of Gospel and Sacred music. The center is named after Hezekiah Walker, a renowned Grammy award-winning gospel singer, songwriter, and pastor who is directly involved in the day-to-day happenings at the Center. The Center is located on the historic campus of Virginia Union University in Richmond, Virginia. Its mission is to preserve, promote, and celebrate the rich heritage of gospel and sacred music and to train the next generation of industry professionals. In addition to its educational programs and course offerings, the HWCGM also hosts community events, concerts, workshops, and conferences throughout the year to promote gospel music and provide opportunities for learning and networking. The VUU Gospel Choir which falls under the HWCGM recorded their first live album in October 2023 and is currently accepting engagements.
