The Virginia Union University Gospel Choir (VUUGC) takes great pride in representing Virginia Union University and the Hezekiah Walker Center for Gospel Music.
The VUUGC was officially founded in 2022 as a result of President, Dr. Hakim Lucas’ vision to broaden Virginia Union University’s audience and influence, while continuing the legacy which our illustrious Virginia Union University choir has championed for decades.
Since its inception, VUUGC has been fortunate to travel extensively and perform at many events such as, CBS 6 “Virginia This Morning”, the inauguration of the Governor of Richmond, VA inauguration, the Japanese Ambassador in Washington, D.C., the HBCU Honors with Erica Campbell, Hezekiah Walker and Fantasia, to name a few.
In 2023, the choir made Virginia Union University history by being the first choir to do a live recording under the guidance and tutelage of world renowned artist and Grammy award winner, Bishop Hezekiah Walker and Grammy nominated producer Stanley Brown. They are also the first choir in the country to perform and record “Binary Codes”, which will be showcased in several Museums across the country.
Notwithstanding the legacy of excellence and accomplishments since its inception, the choir’s core mission remains unchanged: to serve Christ and spread the Good News through song, bringing peace, restoration, healing and inspiration to all who open their hearts and ears to the message.
